Lourdes Acevedo
Recording Secretary

Lourdes Acevedo is the Union’s Recording Secretary and serves on the Board of Trustee of the Union’s Welfare and Benefits funds, which provide benefits for Local 1180 members and retirees.

She was first elected in 2015, but has been a member of the Executive Board since 2012.
Lourdes is a 34-year civil servant at the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), starting in 1983. She is a member of the Principal Administrative Associate (PAA) and Administrative Manager Bargaining committees, and is a member on the City’s joint Labor-Management Quality of Work Life Program.

She worked her way through the ranks in DOT and became a PAA in 1988. In 2003, she filed and won an out-of-title grievance and was promoted to PAA Level II. In 2011, she was promoted to her current title of Administrative Manager.

Lourdes has served as a Shop Steward, starting in 1992 when she was first elected by members in the NYC Parking Division. She organized the office, arranged onsite meetings, and encouraged members to get involved in union activity. She represented members at disciplinary hearings and successfully won many grievances.

She was nominated and awarded the Union Builder Award at CWA Local 1180’s first Steward Recognition Dinner. In 2017, her activism won recognition by the NYC Women’s Caucus that highlights women in the labor movement. NYC Council Member Laurie Cumbo recognized Lourdes as a woman who has shown great leadership and whose work has made a positive impact in our city.

Lourdes co-chairs the Local 1180 Hispanic Committee. She is also a member of the CWA Local 1180 Political Action Committee. Her professional affiliates include membership in the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) and the CWA Minority Caucus.
